Intentionally Design Your Life
The 4-Hour Work Week,, Tim Ferriss
More than likely, you are familiar with Tim Ferriss and his game-changer of a book, The 4-Hour Work Week. For anyone who is even remotely interested in intentional life design, it’s one worth reading and rereading; seriously, take lots of notes and implement what you read in your way.
Each section of the book (represented in this graphic) has invaluable information, incredible stories of readers and listeners of Tim’s work who have successfully implemented some of the principles and strategies of the book, some helpful information from his blog, and additional tips and tricks.

I especially enjoyed his thoughts on challenging the status quo vs. being stupid: (starting on page 30 of the expanded and updated version).
1. Retirement is worst-case scenario insurance.
2. Interest and energy are cyclical.
3. Less is not laziness.
4. The timing is never right.
5. Ask for forgiveness, not permission.
6. Emphasize strengths, don’t fix weaknesses.
7. Things in excess become their opposite.
8. Money alone is not the solution.
9. Relative income is more important than absolute income.
10. Distress is bad, and eustress is good.
Questions and actions:
– How has being “realistic” or “responsible” kept you from the life you want?
– How has doing what you “should” resulted in subpar experiences or regret for not doing something else?
– Look at what you’re currently doing and ask yourself, “What would happen if I did the opposite of the people around me?
– What will I sacrifice if I continue on this track for 5, 10, or 20 years?
I know when I first read this, it resonated with me, and I took some time to think deeply about how I may have instinctively done some of the things in the past, as well as look for ways I could improve upon my current situation as I built my life forward.
Some of what I learned when I first listened to the book about a decade ago lingered within me and inspired my efforts here.

If you have been thinking about reinventing yourself and stepping away from a traditional 9 to 5 way of life, please read or listen to The 4-Hour Work Week.

We can all create the life we want for ourselves and don’t need to wait for someone else’s permission.
