About  Me

Hi, I’m Eduardo C. Powell, but everyone calls me Eddie. Since ’09, I’ve worked as an occupational therapist helping people of all ages rehabilitate from injuries. I specialize in functional training, orthopedic, and neuromuscular rehabilitation, working in nearly every clinical setting, including a small private practice.

I chose my rates, clients, contracts, locations, and availability and thoroughly enjoyed my work, but I was still frustrated that I continuously traded time for money.
Fulfilling and creative work, but I wasn’t genuinely free, in a sense. Can you relate?

I wanted to make a change, not necessarily in my profession but in my approach, which led me to find my way into social media account management, content creation, consulting, and copywriting as a side gig.

After three years of doing this as a side hustle, learning many new skills, and making great relationships, I still found myself renting out my time. The only difference was that I was doing so at higher rates.

Something had to change, but I needed to figure out where to start, so I started with myself. I read everything I could find about social media, processes, automation, mindset, money, and life design, for lack of a better word. I took various courses on each subject and sought out mentorship from industry experts in social media.

The more solopreneurs I met, the more I realized that so many other people across many industries had similar growing pains and revelations along their entrepreneurial journey. Many of us were looking for ways to create leverage to free up time and energy.

     

    The Why:

    I started building Transcend The Status Quo as a creative outlet to share insights from my journey, curate and create resources and opportunities I wish I had earlier in my life and career, and as an exercise to shed old skin intentionally. 

    I wanted to do something for my personal development that could serve others, but I needed to figure out where to start. In time, an excellent place to start was identifying my top values and operating from there. I committed to five values:

    1. Wisdom: knowing oneself is true wisdom
    2. Integrity: integrity can’t be bought or sold
    3. Autonomy: choosing freedom over fear; the status quo life won’t do
    4. Transparency: truth, clarity, open communication, and independent thought serve all well
    5. Servant Leadership: to lead, one must serve and subjugate their needs for the sake of others

    The How:

    I’ve learned so much from hearing other people’s stories, and I wanted to pay it forward by sharing mine. Moreover, I wanted to share my thought process in some detail with the hopes that in doing so, I could save at least one person some of their precious time and energy while on their journey without ever having to meet them personally.

    Knowledge holds the potential power to change many’s lives, and we’re all capable of designing our way forward. Sometimes we only need critical bits of information to take concerted action, and timing also plays a vital role in our lives.

    The What:

    I wanted to share tools, resources, and opportunities online, trusting that if someone felt aligned, we’d connect somehow when the timing was right.
